When I have a long day ahead of me, I keep some of mix in my bag for a quick snack. They are also perfect to include in a lunch box or for after school munchies.
½ cup roasted soynuts, plain or seasoned depending on your tastes
½ flaked coconut
1/4 cup carob chips
1 cup mix dried fruit (banana chips, mango, pineapple, apple – whichever you like)
1/4 raisins
1/4 cup shelled sunflower seeds
Select any of the above ingredients and mix together for a very healthy and tasty treat. Your kids can help make their own trail mix – take them to a local health food store that has bulk items. There are usually several types of dried fruit, carob covered pretzels and other goodies from which to choose. They often have bulk roasted soynuts, too. If not, look for bags of seasoned soynuts in the produce section or with the health foods. If you love carving pumpkins for Halloween, try roasting some of the seeds.
