Of all the dairy products I can no longer have(lactose intolerant!), the one I really, really miss is chocolate milk. I have tried several chocolates soy milk and while some are good for smoothies and shakes, none have satisfied my craving for a simple glass of creamy, thick, rich chocolate milk – until I tried Sun Soy Chocolate Soy Milk.
I am always on the lookout for new soy products – especially those that might satisfy my sweet tooth. When I heard about a new chocolate soy milk I just had to give it a try. While the Sun Soy line is relatively new, the company that produces this soy milk is well known to consumers. Morningstar Foods has a long list of quality products, many of which are especially beneficial for those with specific dietary needs.
The Sun Soy line is great for those who have problems digesting milk and/or are looking for tasty ways to add some soy to their diet. Available in four varieties – Creamy Original, Vanilla, Coffee Latte, and Chocolate – Sun Soy offers a low-fat and delicious alternative to dairy milk.
I tried samples of all four and was very pleased with each flavor. The Creamy Original was slightly thicker than other soy milk I have tried, with a very good taste (and no beany aftertaste). The Vanilla flavor was also quite good. I tried both varieties in baked goods and soups with great results – very smooth texture and a nice thickness in “cream soups” and bread puddings. Both were a bit too thick for the smoothies we like to make (we prefer a slightly thinner smoothie), but were great in shakes! The Coffee Latte was wonderful! As with the rest of the line, this flavor was thick and creamy, with just the right amount of coffee flavor for a great pick-me-up in the morning. I tried the Coffee Latte straight and in a Coffee-Banana Shake – yummy either way.
Now for the Chocolate. I was very surprised by its thickness – as creamy and “chocolatey” as full-fat dairy chocolate milk – honestly! This flavor has become my family’s favorite chocolate milk. Yes, it works well in thicker smoothies and great in shakes – but I think it is best served very cold in a tall glass – nothing fancy, just plain good chocolate milk.
A Bit About the Product Line:
The entire line of Sun Soy is low-fat and cholesterol-free with approximately 3 grams of fat and 6.25 grams of soy protein per serving. It meets the FDA’s requirements to be high in soy protein (foods must contain 1/4 of the FDA’s 25 grams of soy per day guidelines per serving), and the American Heart Association’s “Heart Healthy” Seal.
Made with organic ingredients, it also contains nine essential amino acids that the body requires for day-to-day functioning. All this and great-tasting, too. You can find Sun Soy in the refrigerated section of many major grocery stores – usually near the dairy and other specialty milk. At approx. $2.34 per quart, the price is comparable to other refrigerated soy milk. Here in San Antonio, I did have some trouble finding Sun Soy. A local Super Wal-Mart carries all four varieties – and I often buy four quarts of the Chocolate soy milk at a time! For more information about Sun Soy, please visit their website at Sun Soy
